Watch the production of 'The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon' directed by a college theatre club president, highlighting teamwork and creativity.
After acting in our school’s theatre club, Charlene and I were invited to become Co-Presidents of Under the Lights. In the spring of 2024, we organized a whimsical production that pokes fun at some of our favorite fairytales, bringing together over 20 actors from all corners of the school.
Initially, we thought we’d be lucky to get a few freshmen to join the play. Instead, we ended up with a surprising and fantastic mix of performers—finance majors, football players, a cappella champions, and screenwriters—all transforming into some of the most well-known fairytale characters. I had an incredible time promoting, casting, directing, and watching these talented individuals bring the play to life!
This experience is one of my happiest college memories, and I hope you enjoy watching the play as much as I enjoyed directing it. :)

The journey to produce 'The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon' was a thrilling adventure, steeped in teamwork, creativity, and enthusiasm. This theatrical experience was not just about acting; it was about fostering a community of passionate individuals who came together to breathe life into timeless tales. Involved from the early stages of casting, I sought to assemble a diverse group of over 40 actors, each bringing their unique flair to the narrative. This collaboration blossomed into a rich tapestry of performances that impressed audiences and highlighted each actor's talents.
In addition to casting, I directed rehearsals focused on not only honing individual performances but also cultivating group dynamics. Each session was a blend of fun and seriousness, allowing the cast to explore the humor and heart embedded in the stories of the Brothers Grimm.
Promotional efforts played a key role in attracting an audience. Through strategic initiatives like club fairs and targeted email campaigns, we heightened our club's visibility, igniting interest among fellow students and the community. Our aim was to create an engaging experience that resonated beyond the stage, encompassing the vibrance of our club and our dedication to the arts. By mentoring actors both on and off stage, we ensured that every participant felt valued and essential to the production's success. Every detail formed a part of a larger vision, leading to an unforgettable theatrical journey for all involved.

One of the most fulfilling aspects of this production was the sense of camaraderie that developed amongst the cast and crew. The scale of involving over 40 actors in 'The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon' meant that fostering teamwork was paramount. We established an environment where everyone felt comfortable sharing ideas, leading to dynamic rehearsal discussions that sparked creativity and innovation. Through fun icebreakers and bonding exercises, the cast built lasting relationships, which translated into an on-stage chemistry that brought the play to life.
Moreover, collaboration extended beyond the cast. Working closely with designers, stage managers, and technical crews, we ensured that every facet of the production aligned, from set designs to costume choices. This mutual respect and commitment among all involved drove the project forward and created a supportive atmosphere that empowered everyone. Our combined efforts not only enhanced the production quality but also enriched each member's theatrical experience. As we celebrated our achievements and learned from our challenges, we laid the groundwork for future theatrical endeavors within our college community.
In executing our promotional initiatives for 'The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon', we harnessed various engaging strategies that significantly boosted our audience turnout. Our participation in club fairs was instrumental; it allowed us to present exciting highlights of the production face-to-face with potential attendees. The vibrant energy of our booth, coupled with sneak peeks and interactive elements, sparked interest in the show.
We also adopted targeted email campaigns that reached out to students across campus. By carefully crafting messages that highlighted the uniqueness of our production, we drew in those who might not typically attend a theater performance. Providing insights into the whimsical nature of the show, alongside cast interviews and behind-the-scenes glimpses, fostered a sense of connection with our audience.
Social media played a vital role in our promotional endeavors as well. Utilizing platforms like Instagram and Facebook, we shared captivating visual content, including rehearsal shots, cast member spotlights, and progress updates. These platforms enabled us to create buzz leading up to the performance, transforming excitement into actual ticket sales. Through these multifaceted promotional efforts, we not only increased our visibility but also cultivated a lively, engaged audience eager to enjoy the world of theater we had created.
