Goal

  • Organize ballot and voting information into an online voting platform accessible to all Americans

  • Closely consider information architecture to avoid biases

  • Develop a comprehensive voting interface prototype

Method

  1. Research the current voting system and its information architecture

  2. Discus its strengths and shortcomings

  3. Implement new features as deemed necessary

  4. Draft paper prototypes, conduct user testing

  5. Create low fidelity wireframe in Figma, conduct user testing

  6. Refine interface and add visual detail

Design Choices

  • Drag-and-drop feature to avoid "donkey vote" where voters rank choices in the order they are presented

  • Extra-information popups to provide voters with additional information about candidates or propositions without leaving the page

  • "Next" and "Save" buttons to guide voters through the process

  • Did not use an interlock or information comprehension checkpoints to prioritize our goal of ease and clarity so that as many people as possible vote
