Why should I babyproof my home?

Statistics show children, especially under age four, are most likely to be injured by falls, poisonings, choking, drowning, and burns in the home. More than two million children aged four and under are treated in emergency rooms annually for injuries occurring in the home. Ensuring a safe environment for your child to play, learn and explore is of the utmost importance.

When should I start babyproofing my home?

The best time to begin babyproofing your home is before your child starts crawling and discovering all the dangers in your home. Even if your baby is already crawling, it is not too late. It is important to make sure your baby’s surroundings encourage this growth and help your baby explore safely.

We also encourage families to consider babyproofing homes of family members where their little one spends a lot of time, i.e. grandparents, aunts and uncles.

I always watch my baby. Do I need to babyproof?

Babyproofing your home is not a substitute for proper adult supervision, this is true. However, the goal of babyproofing is to minimize the risks your child will encounter on a daily basis in your home. Accidents can happen even under the closest watch. Your baby will quickly develop motor skills that lead to independence and exploration and it is important to stay ahead of that curve by maintaining a safe environment for your child.

How long do I need to have my home babyproofed?

Babyproofing is an ongoing process. As your child grows, you will need to reevaluate the precautions you have taken, and decide if they are still adequate. You will need to constantly reassess your child’s surroundings for new dangers.

How do I start babyproofing my house?

The first step in babyproofing a home is to do a walkthrough to identify some of the dangers you may not be aware of. The best way to do this is to put yourself down to the child’s level. This is an eye-opening experience! We will perform a room-by-room home safety evaluation to identify potential hazards that could injure your child and recommend helpful solutions or products. We will develop a “home safety plan” which provides you with a customized and detailed list of recommended products along with an estimate of the cost per item.

We take the guesswork out of choosing the best safety products for your home with our expert knowledge of the type of products that will work best for your particular situation, and we have access to many products and brands that are unavailable locally. In addition, we provide safety awareness information covering topics such as fire and electrical safety, poison prevention, carbon monoxide detectors, fire prevention and more.

Can I buy your safety products so we can install them?

YES! We we are happy to assist by providing recommendations, products, and installation tips. Following your in-home evaluation, we provide you with an estimate that outlines our product recommendations along with the material and installation costs. This allows you to decide how much or how little you would like us to install verses what you would like to install. Parents typically want us to install gates and cabinet latches because they are not only time consuming, but often difficult and dangerous for an untrained person to install. We have the expertise to provide the peace of mind that all products are installed correctly.

I have some safety products, will you install them for me?

It depends on the quality of the products. Some safety products are of much higher quality than others. We know which products work, which do not, and why. We will only install those products that we normally sell and meet our standards for quality and safety.

How much does it cost to babyproof a home?

Two main factors determine the cost of childproofing a home: the size of your home and the amount of childproofing you desire. Most jobs average between $400 to $1600 which includes products and installation. After your home safety evaluation, you will be given a detailed written estimate--this will give you the best idea of the cost of childproofing your home. We will certainly work within your budget to help you create a safe environment for your baby to live, grow, explore, and learn.

The cost of having your home evaluated by an experienced child safety expert is $95. We will identify potential hazards to your baby or toddler, provide safety solutions, recommend the most effective products, and provide you with a personalized plan to childproof your home.

Can’t I find the same safety products at my local store?

Probably not. Most stores carry only two or three different brands of safety products and their employees are not knowledgeable or trained on how to select and install the products. We carry products directly from numerous manufacturers which allow us to pick and choose the most appropriate products for your home.
