My child knows not to.......

I hear this statement often, followed by different things. These are the most common.

- go near the pool

- climb on the furniture

- go outside/open the door

- touch the gun

- play in the car

I absolutely agree with the idea of teaching your child not to do things, but realize kids are going to misbehave. There will be times when they don’t follow the rules.

The consequences of not following the rules should not be DEATH.

That’s why in addition to teaching our children “NO”, we should also:

- install a pool fence

- Anchor furniture

- Install door locks & latches

- Keep firearms in safes

- Keep vehicles locked and keys out of reach
